Pre-Production Work

Since I was not to happy with my photo shoots, I decided to organise another one during the Christmas Holiday. This time I added a guitar to make it look more like a music magazine. I think these images show more of the artists VALS, instead of just casual images that looked almost like Facebook-profile pictures, I placed my model in actually interesting poses, that I think worked with the style of the magazine. With the new images, I changed the rest of the magazine a lot too, but overall it came out better then before. Here I have added some of the photos that I am going to use in my magazine. Most of the will of course be edited before they are used in the magazine.

My original plans for the cover photo where not too big a part of the finished product, because I did not have the model that I wanted, because he was unavailable due to bad communication. I got another friend to step in, but we had a limited wardrobe of clothes to choose from, and personally, I think her attitude and looks would be completely wrong considering the original VALS that I had thought of for the Artist.

I had to take the photo shoot as soon as possible, so the poses were a bit improvised, but they look casual in a way that I think fit the artist’s VALS. I tried to make some distorted versions of the images, (as shown below) to fit to the original idea, by layering them and moving them around, but I decided it did not fit the magazine. In addition, it think the original idea might have resulted in a cover photo that would have been off-putting, as there would not have been any connection between the cover photo and the reader, like there is when the model is holding a direct gaze. I added some of the photos I thought were good to this post.

The feedback I got was very mixed. The biggest disagreements between the people giving me feedback, was whether it looked like a music magazine, and if the contents page was easy to navigate on.
